New Zealand commodity prices fell in June led by lower prices for dairy products and aluminium, reports said on Thursday citing data released by ANZ National Bank.
The commodity export price index declined 1.2% compared to May, partly reversing the 2.8% gain in the previous month. In New Zealand dollar terms, the index dropped 0.2%.
Eight of 13 commodities recorded lower prices during last month, the bank said. Dairy prices slipped 3.1% and aluminium was down 6%. Prices of apples, beef, log, sawn timber and kiwi fruit all fell.
New Zealand emerged from a five-quarter long recession in the second quarter of 2009 but growth has been relatively subdued, due in part to the strong New Zealand dollar. The economy is largely dependent on agriculture, but manufacturing and tourism are also important. |
